Q: Damian, I own a traditional Victorian home in the Eastern suburbs. We wish to renovate the existing house and extend out by about 10 metres in the back yard. This will give us a new kitchen space and larger casual living area. We would also like to put a new main bedroom and ensuite here too. Would you recommend we do the extension in period style to match the existing house, or should we have a completely contrasting modern extension? |

Our windows are much bigger than they used to be, often replacing whole walls and bringing in the outside. Window coverings have followed suit. Once simply hung to shield from next-door’s prying eyes, nowadays window coverings are more than simply curtains, and include plantation shutters, louvres, drapes, roller blinds and so many other variations that we are spoilt for choice. And now with summer approaching, we really need to protect what’s on the inside. |
